As Welsh Government statisticians our primary job is to ensure that we are producing statistics that help us understand the people, society and economy of Wales. However we also work with the Government Statistical Service across the UK to ensure we are collaborating and sharing ideas on how best to respond to the big policy questions. By working collaboratively we can share data and analysis that provides greater insight for users on particular topics. With that in mind I wanted to share two updates from the Government Statistical Service in the last week that highlight how we are looking to work together.

Data plays an important role in making effective decisions, particularly within the public sector. Often public sector bodies need the same data and we end up with duplicate data collections which cost money and place unnecessary burden on those providing the data. Also complexities and concerns around data sharing are often identified as real barriers to improving public services and the services that citizens receive. Whilst the simple solution is for public bodies to share their data, there have long been barriers to doing this. Continue reading

The Sport Wales’ School Sport Survey will be back in 2018 and preparations are well underway for the April launch date.
The Team heading up the project which last round saw 116,000 youngsters share their views on physical activity in Wales, have been busy consulting with partners on potential changes and improvements.
