New powers for public bodies to share data – we want your views

Data plays an important role in making effective decisions, particularly within the public sector. Often public sector bodies need the same data and we end up with duplicate data collections which cost money and place unnecessary burden on those providing the data. Also complexities and concerns around data sharing are often identified as real barriers to improving public services and the services that citizens receive. Guest Blog: Code of Practice for Statistics Consultation

I’m pleased to introduce a guest blog by Penny Babb from the Office for Statistics Regulation. The UK Statistics Authority is currently consulting on a revised version of the Code of Practice for statistics. The Code of Practice is the framework for the official statistics produced here in Wales as well as the rest of the UK.

As part of this revision the Authority are proposing that the Code provides principles that can apply to any numerical information so it is relevant to the wider data agenda. I’d very much encourage those with interest in data and statistics in Wales to respond.
