We have today published the final 2017 Key Stage 4 results for secondary school pupils in Wales. At this time of year there is much interest in putting the national performance into context, whether that is by comparing Wales to another country or looking at trends over time. There have been a number of changes in recent years to the way performance measures are calculated and in this blog I will describe the impact that these changes have had on our ability to compare. Measuring the Well-being of Wales

Well-being of Wales report cover

On September 25th I published the first ever annual Well-being of Wales report. The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 required us to report annually on our progress towards the national well-being goals, with reference to the national indicators.

It gave an insight into the state of the nation’s well-being and recent trends. Key messages can be found in this Slideshare and the full report.

Guest Blog: Code of Practice for Statistics Consultation

I’m pleased to introduce a guest blog by Penny Babb from the Office for Statistics Regulation. The UK Statistics Authority is currently consulting on a revised version of the Code of Practice for statistics. The Code of Practice is the framework for the official statistics produced here in Wales as well as the rest of the UK.

As part of this revision the Authority are proposing that the Code provides principles that can apply to any numerical information so it is relevant to the wider data agenda. I’d very much encourage those with interest in data and statistics in Wales to respond.
